Seeking help for Christopher's medical bills
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Carolyn and I am starting a fundraiser to try to raise money to help my husband get the medical care he needs.
He has to have both hips replaced due to a condition called avascular necrosis. It is stage III/IV and his orthopedic doctor said that there is the left side of his hip bone is starting to collapse and the avascular necrosis is on both hips with nearly whole femoral head involvement. Avascular Necrosis basically kills the blood vessels in the affected area which results in bone death.
We have five children and I am the only one able to work due to his health condition. He is in constant pain and has a hard time getting around the house. It's gotten so bad that he cries every day and can barely walk.
We have health insurance but it doesn't cover much when it comes to co-pays or expenses for the specialists he needs to go to.
The last time he went to a specialist (orthopedic surgeon) It was $160 for the initial visit after our insurance coverage. The medications he has to take are expensive, and so are the tests like MRIs and x-rays that he's had to have done. We can't even afford to get him back into the specialist order to his primary care physician right now because we are so behind all bills at the moment. I don't know how we are going to be able to afford to get the surgeries done and all of these specialists appointments and procedures they want done as well.
On top of that, he had to go to ICU recently because of internal bleeding. It was really scary and he lost so much blood. He almost had to have a blood transfusion and ended up having to have an emergency surgery to stop the bleeding. Thankfully he is home from that now, but it's just been very difficult trying to get all of this figured out with work and supporting the kids and taking care of our bills and then his medical care on top of that. Thankfully I have amazing bosses who have been really supportive, but I am really struggling to make ends meet due to limited income. I'm working multiple jobs right now to try to float the bills and get the basic things we need.
The doctor said that after he is able to get the surgeries done, he's going to need intensive physical therapy and it's going to be a long time before he's able to work again.
This has been really rough for our family and I am doing my best to try to help him but if we can get a little extra support we would be extremely grateful.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
