STORY
“Second Skin: IMPOSTER” is the newest work on the Magnus Works platform. After our last project, “SAMARITAN ” where we focused on deliberate action, malleable composition, and connections with the audience, I was led to re-think the elements that helped develop the work. As “SAMARITAN” was an external, first look at self, I wanted to reverse the concept and look internally.
"Second Skin: Imposter,” is the exploration of the second self. We will be exploring duality, the passing of time, and the physicality of introduction through our surfaced presentations of self. Working with physical theater, we will build characters that reflect passions and desires that we rarely express in our primary self… parts of us that we tend to only access in moments of fear or loathing.
What does it take to practice self-control and challenge self-centered perspective? Are we honoring the gift of life with honesty, integrity and keen awareness? Movement articulation requires me to focus on the coordination of mind-body-and-spirit, the inner workings of self rather than external habits. In the current social climate, where we are choosing divisiveness to protect the security of self, “Second Skin: Imposter” will research these ideas through physical movement on camera, the dissection of space and the relationship between cinema, narrative, and language.
FROM STAGE TO FILM
With what started out as a performance residency at Kaatsbaan Cultural Park, has now evolved into a feature film. Once completed next year, we plan to submit Second Skin: Imposter to various film festivals and when safe, hold a private screening. We will be working with a distributor to shop our work for TV/ Streaming services. We are crafting a new genre of film! Take this journey with us and #seeksecondskin.

HOW CAN I HELP?
Donate! Your contributions will directly support the production of our film. Funds are being raised to pay the cast, crew and cover all other materials/services needed to produce the film. This includes giving 5 movement artists a living wage, covering costumes, sound, lights, all set/prop materials, marketing fees and technical post-production.
I ask the community to support this new work as I transition to an established stage of creation and artistry. As a supporter, you’ll help make sure "Second Skin: Imposter" gets a second life! More widely, you’ll be supporting the establishment of the Magnus Works platform, where we are committed to reconnect internal human experiences beyond institutionalized dance. I have produced work through commission and my transparent will to collaborate. I realized that my true self has emerged and I would like to fully immerse in this liberating state through creative and conceptual work. Working and collaborating with artists over this past year, (many of color) helped align my art with responsibility and honest perspective. as it relates to the current social climate and state of the world. I would like to continue to provide solution-focused work traversing several mediums.
