Selamawit Emergency Fund

Donation protected
Last week a family friend and member of our community, Selamawit, was attacked by her roommate (more information can be found here). She was able to escape and was transported to a hospital where she was placed in a medically induced coma. She still remains in critical condition and will have an extremely long and difficult road ahead of her.

Selam came the the U.S. two years ago and has been working multiple jobs to support herself, including jobs some of our favorite DC area Ethiopian restaurants. She is currently working at Whole Foods. While living in Ethiopia, she worked for Ethiopian Airlines and was a student of Addis Ababa University. She is such a kind and caring person and is always quick to greet you with a smile. She has been a part of our family since she arrived.

We are hoping to be able to make the road to recovery a little bit easier by lessening the financial burden that will be placed on her.

We appreciate any and all contributions to help during this difficult time in her life.

Thank you

**UPDATE**
Thank you all so much for all the overwhelming love, prayers and support!

Selam has been in the Intensive Care Burn Unit at Washington Hospital Center since February 24, 2018. She was admitted with burns on 40% of her total body surface area. She has undergone several surgeries and was undergoing daily burn rehabilitation. She was discharged on July 3.

It would have been such an impossible situation to deal with if it wasn't for the generosity you poured in.

The love and support she was blessed to get from so many caring people like you kept Selam in remarkably good spirits and made it possible for her to rent a small apartment when the day came to be discharged.

For now she has a home. However, her battle is not over yet. She still has ongoing wound management, more staged surgeries and ongoing burn rehabilitation to undergo as an outpatient. She and her family are going to use your gifts in a responsible and prudent way. All funds will go solely towards Selam’s wellbeing and care.

When you consider what she still needs though it is obvious that Selam still needs all the support she can get .

We can’t thank you all enough for all your support and prayers. Please continue to share her story to as many people as you can so Selam can continue her healing process.
