Selden Family Cancer/Accident Fund

Donation protected

Hello,

We are a middleclass family in the small town of Eagle, Michigan.  Never would we have dreamed that we would be asking for help.  My name is Scott and my wife is Teri (who I have been married to for 28 years.)  I’ll give a summary of our medical situations, followed up with a look at our family.

It all started in Oct. 2015, when we heard the dreaded word cancer.  Teri was diagnosed with breast cancer.  The next year was filled with an aggressive treatment strategy.  She began with 2 breast surgeries, followed by the news she needed chemotherapy.  4 chemo treatments were given over a 12 week period.  Next, she went through 32 radiation treatments over several weeks.  After radiation, she began infusion treatments which are every few months and is also on the “chemo” pill. These are ongoing for years to come.  Physically she had complete hair loss, radiation burns, and bone damaged caused by the chemotherapy. She has ongoing pain in her elbows, knees, and feet.  She has several Dr. appointments ongoing.  Through all this her spirits are high.

Just as we were beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I (Scott), had an accident on Dec. 20, 2016.  I was moving a full sized refrigerator from the 2nd story of our house to the 1st floor, when it toppled down 12 steps on top of me.  The result was devastating.  I broke my back in 2 spots, crushed my left leg, broke 20 bones in the foot, broke my left heal, and also the tibia in my left leg.  The right foot was severely sprained.  An emergency surgery was done on my heal placing screws in the heal.  My road to recovery is just beginning with the leg casted and my back in a brace.   There will be therapy to follow.  As a result I will be out of work for up to 1 year.  The short term disability covers our Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance and a few living expense bills.  Mounting hospital bills are accumulating and creating a financial struggle for my family.

As promised, a look into my family.  I’ve worked for the same company for over 20 years.  We are active in the church and community volunteering when we can.  We have 3 children.  Our oldest son is married with 2 children.  He is a very hard worker, works full time, and a wonderful father and husband.  Our middle son is a senior at Spring Arbor University. He is majoring in social work and works full time.  Our daughter is a sophomore at Western Michigan University and is a cheerleader for the Broncos.  She is also in the Army ROTC there, as well as a Sargent in The Army National Guard.

We need any help to cover medical bills  for both of our care that is not covered by insurance and with living expenses.  You can help by sharing our story and/or donating whatever you can to this go fund me page.

Our family is grateful for any donation and prayers.
