JUSTICE FOR SELVA:
55-year-old Selvaraju Vellingiri of Cary, NC, set out for his usual afternoon walk on 27th Aug 2020. Later, his family received word from the police that he had been mercilessly shot down by an unknown assailant. His passing has caused immeasurable grief to everyone who knew his kind and quiet disposition. The normally peaceful community of Cary is grappling with the senselessness of this crime.
Selva’s life was snuffed out by a hateful and evil man whom he did not even know. Reports in the media portray the assailant as a criminal, with a history of violence. When did an innocuous activity like an afternoon walk become so dangerous? How did a man with his background get a gun so easily? Did the NC criminal justice system fail in preventing these deaths by letting him walk free after his previous crime?
Selva was a caring husband, a doting father, and a good friend to many. He made his home in this safe town and enthusiastically interacted with the public at large as an active volunteer. SELVA DEFINITELY DESERVED BETTER. Cary police have apprehended the murderer, but justice is yet to be served. We, the family and friends of Selvaraju Vellingiri, request you to join us in our crusade against poor gun regulation and mounting gun violence by donating to a memorial fund that intends to help victims of gun violence financially. Please help us make the great state of North Carolina feel safe and livable once more.
Gun violence is an insidious epidemic that has taken control of this great country with nearly 60,000 deaths, this year alone. Please help us keep the narrative of Selva’s life from becoming a mere statistic by actively volunteering your time, effort and money towards this noble cause.
