Seminole Indian Scouts Cemetery

Seminole Indians crossed into Texas from Mexico on July 4, 1870.  Officially mustered into service on August 18, 1870 at Fort Duncan, Eagle Pass, TX.  In July 1872, the scouts were moved to Fort Clark, Brackettville, TX.  On Fort Clark, they lived along the Las Moras Creek on a reservation known as "The Camp".

During their scouting service 1870-1914, not a single scout, out of no more than 25 at a time, was killed or seriously injured.  Four (4) of the scouts were awarded the Medal of Honor for their heroic service:  Sgt., John Ward, Pvt., Pompey Factor, Pvt., Adam Paine, and Pvt., Isaac Payne.

Seminole-Negro Scouts were disbanded in 1914, they and  their families ordered to abandon the Fort Clark their reservation.

Seminole Indian Scout Cemetery established in 1872, is located on FM 3348, 3.1 miles SW of Brackettville, TX.

This fund raiser is organized by, the Absentee Seminole Tribe of Texas , descendants of the Seminole Scouts.  The Absentee Seminole Tribe of Texas , is a Tribal Council managed organization.  The tribe is a non-profit corporation.  Registered as a 501 (C) (3).

Fund are being raised to renovate the historic Seminole Indian Scouts Cemetery entrance.  The cemetery is a Texas historical cemetery.
