Send a copy of 100 Great Black Britons to every school
My name’s Yvonne and I’m a retired primary school headteacher from Hertfordshire. I have known and worked with Patrick Vernon for several years coming from the same City - Wolverhampton. He’s honourable and inspiring, driven by his depth of knowledge of cultural history and commitment to work for the betterment of society. A champion for equality. I helped work on the shortlist for his and Dr Angelina Osborne’s new book, 100 Great Black Britons which celebrates the continued legacy and achievements of Black people in Britain.
The book is about celebrating the role of people of African and Caribbean descent in British history amidst the continuing exclusion of the Black British community from the mainstream popular conception of 'Britishness'.
Each entry explores in depth the individual's contribution to British history - a contribution that too often has been either overlooked or dismissed.
We want to send a copy of this vital book, with a poster, to all secondary schools in the UK.
It is a big idea. There are 8,205 secondary schools on our list - including independent schools, special schools and pupil referral units. But we’re up for the challenge.
We know we can’t do this alone, so we welcome any businesses or unions who want to help out. Just get in touch through pushing the ‘contact’ button.
Funds will be held by Focus Games Ltd and schools can register their interest in getting a copy by filling out the form here https://www.100greatblackbritons.co.uk/books_for_schools.html
