Send a Spacekin Into Actual Space...

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Ryan Harris, I am an illustrator and creator of "The Spacekins."

My illustrations are made entirely from beach litter, household recycling, charity shop finds, and all manner of other bits and pieces.

The Spacekins are very tiny, fictional space beings that live in The Asteroid Belt - they all have weird and wonderful stories, fantastic adventures, strange enemies, and they all love to venture into the stars and discover great things...

Using reclaimed materials is a fundamental part of my creative process - it reduces the level of litter locally, (especially on the beaches, where most of my materials are found) and gives new and exciting life to what would have otherwise remained in our environment, causing only harm and pollution.

The Spacekins have a large -and growing - following, and when we heard about a company called "Send My Stuff Into Space" an organisation dedicated to the launching of almost anything you desire high into Earth orbit and recording the entire spellbinding journey, we were intrigued...

To send a Spacekin into space would not only make for a fantastic story, exciting pictures and video, be a wonderful achievement, but also - it would really help to raise awareness surrounding pollution at many different levels, not only around our coastlines, but on our streets, in our parks and other green spaces.

I think that the image of a tiny Spacekin, floating high over the Earth - taking in all of these sadly mistreated environments in one shot, with the darkness of space as a backdrop would be very powerful.

We are endeavouring to raise funds for this venture in order to finance the cost of the trip into space - including 4K video footage of the launch, the ascent, the time spent in orbit (with photographs) and the descent.

Once the brave Spacekin has returned to Earth, they will become a very rare piece of illustrative art- one that has left the confines of gravity, to float among the heavens and look down on our fragile little world.
I would like to then make framed, limited edition prints of the event (and possibly even the Spacekin themselves) available to buy, helping to raise funds for charity.

Not a bad legacy for something that was once thrown carelessly away...
