Hi friends and family! I have the opportunity to run the London Marathon in April 2024 on the Teenage Cancer Trust charity team!
Like many of us in schools, the pandemic was an experience that rattled me personally and professionally. Exercise became an outlet. Walking became cycling, and spin classes led to a treadmill. One day I got curious about this marathon training program on my treadmill. I'm now starting my fourth marathon training cycle for a virtual marathon in November that earns me an entry in the NYC Marathon 2024. I applied for London's charity spot and was floored to be granted this opportunity. London and New York are two of the six Abbot's World Majors (no, I'm not looking to do all 6, but how cool!). This personal challenge has taught me a lot about myself and I think made me a better educator and person. It also gave me the confidence to enter for a chance to run the London Marathon with a charity team.
Teenage Cancer Trust funds specialist nurses, youth support teams and hospital units within the healthcare system to provide the very best care and support during treatment and beyond, making sure cancer doesn’t stop young people from living their lives. They’re the only UK charity dedicated to meeting this vital need.
I chose to run for TCS because as a high school assistant principal, tragically our school communities meet and support teenagers facing cancer at a critical point in their lives. The strength these teenagers have in facing unimaginable challenges on top of an already challenging transition from childhood to adulthood is incredible. They need all the community support we can provide.
Thank you for supporting me on my journey!
