Send Damaris to Pitzer

Donation protected
As the recipient of the 2018 Young Alumni Achievment Award for Pitzer College, I implore you to help me send Damaris Esquivel to Pitzer College for her final, senior year at the college.

I had the privilege of meeting Damaris in January 2018, and was immediately impressed with her willingness to help the community, her drive to achieve her Bachelor’s of Art, and her passion for justice.

Damaris is a 4th year student, a Dreamer and actively involved in the student body. Damaris worked as an advancement Ambassador, Office of Study Abroad and International Programs Intern for Pitzer. She was asked by Pitzer to speak in Washington D.C. for a policy proposal on sanctuary campuses, and was honored as a member of Latinos in Law D.C. Program. She received a Certificate of Civic Engagement Recognition from the City of Modesto in acknowledgement of the conference “Dare to Dream” that she organized. As a result of experiencing a vast series of extenuating circumstances (familial issues, poverty, deportation proceedings in this political climate, sexual assault, homelessness) Damaris lost her scholarship and became homeless. Not to be deterred, Damaris found a way to fund her Junior year Spring Semester. However, now, she is nearly out of options. Please, I implore you to help. As the 2018 Young Alumni Achievement Award recipient of Pitzer College, I believe in Damaris, and foresee a bright future for her. Let’s make her dream of finishing her Pitzer education true.

Trust me when I say that I believe in Damaris, and if I could, I would pay for her education. I am asking for your help.

Any funds received will go towards Damaris’ tuition at Pitzer College, and for books and incidentals.  Any additional money raised over the $45,000 will go towards building a new scholarship program for students who show promise in academics, and are financially unable to pay for their academics due to their DACA status, or immigration status.

If we do not reach our goal, the money will go towards Damaris’ education at a junior college because she will not give up her drrams of obtainign a bachelors of art.

Damaris is a first-generation college student who is a recipient of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program. She played Rugby with Pomona-Pitzer, and was part of the team that went to Nationals. Damaris is an amazing student, and I know that given a chance, she will achieve great things.

Damaris is expected to intern for my office Barcena Law Offices with the hopes of one day becoming an attorney. We will not give up on her dream and I hope you will help me support her.
