Send Dennise Cecena to Iceland!

My name is Dennise Cecena and I am a 16 year-old student from Borrego Springs High School. I was raised in Borrego and have had little opportunity to explore my passion: MUSIC. Recently I have been accepted in to the choral group Chamber Bravura, an after school youth choral group that meets once a week on Saturday in San Diego. Chamber Bravura sings solely a cappella music and the music is rigorous and challenging, not only fueling my passion but also giving me a rigorous musical experience. I am really fortunate that Chamber Bravura is traveling to both New York City and Iceland this year! Chamber Bravura will be singing in Lincoln Center in New York City under the direction of Eric Whitacre. While there the group is going to experience amazing cultural outings, including seeing Bernadette Peters in the Broadway revival, Hello, Dolly! I have never traveled in the U.S. outside of California, so it would be an awesome experience for me musically, culturally, and geographically. :)
Additionally, Chamber Bravura is doing a concert tour of Iceland! We will spend 8 days in the country singing in beautiful concert venues that include mass performances. We will perform, on average, three times a day. It's definitely more work than play- and I'm all too excited for the "work." I know this too will be an amazing experience.
I have learned so much from my new choir family. I have learned how to work as part of a team, how to fuel my passion with the help of others, how to support those around me instead of solely taking self interest, and how to spread love and joy to others in the community through my and our voices. Additionally, the work required to learn all the repertoire has been (on average) two hours of practice a day. It is not easy music and I have acquired a tremendous work ethic from it that has made a huge positive impact on my academics as well.
Any support you can give me would be so appreciated. My family has been selling tamales to help raise funds. I would love to earn my keep- please feel free to request I sing to earn any donation you may give. I am so grateful that I am happy to honor any request. Also, we are a 501c3. God Bless you all and thank you for the Borrego Love.
