Send Drexel Club Climbing to USAC Collegiate Nationals!

Hello!!

We are so proud of our team not only for building strength as climbers but building a community in our first year as a Club Sport at Drexel! We had 10 athletes compete at the USA Climbing Collegiate National Qualifying Event at GOAT on April 20/21st, with 4 qualifying for USAC Collegiate Nationals in Arizona at the end of May! The number of athletes that qualified this year is equal to the number of athletes sent to Nationals in the last two years combined. Such growth is the direct result of the atmosphere that was fostered by bringing students together on a team and we hope to continue that in the coming weeks and years. Now, we need your help to get these students out to Arizona so that they can take full advantage of the wonderful opportunity that has been presented to them.

Our team is completely self-funded this year, as we do not qualify for school funds in our first year as a Club Sport. Our resources to get athletes to this point have been largely depleted so that we do not increase the financial burden on students to pursue competitive collegiate climbing. We already charge $35 for each school term that students participate in club climbing, which is the main source of our revenue, which is on top of monthly membership fees students pay to the gym that hosts our practices, the cost of climbing equipment that can total well over $500 annually and the funds for traveling or paying discounted registration fees for qualifying competitions throughout the year. We are now at the biggest competition of the year, which also means the most expensive when taking into account registration fees starting at $200, traveling across the country ($750), and lodging for an extended weekend stay. For athletes participating in two disciplines, this will likely amount to a total cost of $750-$1000 per person for the single event.

We want to help lessen the financial burden for our climbers, but we are largely constrained. Anything that you can give to help will allow us to ensure that these climbers can take advantage of this unique opportunity and contribute to the overall development of Club Climbing at Drexel for years to come. Supporting athletes at this event allows Drexel to receive a team ranking that we can parlay into appealing for additional funding for future years to further support climbers at Drexel of all levels for years to come - fulfilling our mission! Please note that should there be any excess, we will include this in our general club sport account for use in future years including athletes that may qualify for next year's Nationals!
