Send Forest Service horse Spot to a sanctuary
Donation protected
Before I retired from the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests (GMUG), we retired Spot, a 14-year-old registered Missouri Foxtrotter, because he is lame from laminitis and ringbone. After ten years of service, he couldn't be used for the work he used to do: providing pack and riding support for various #GMUG missions, including wildland fire support, law enforcement, trails, range, recreation and wildlife management.
In December, Spot was sold to what we thought would be his forever home, someone with another horse with laminitis and ringbone and familiar with what it took to care for these horses. Although the buyer told us Spot would have a good home for the rest of his life, such was not the case. Instead, they sold Spot at an auction in February.
I'm raising money to buy Spot from the facility he's currently in northeast Colorado and taking him to a horse sanctuary where he will be cared for, for the rest of his life. All funds will go toward his purchase and care. So please help me and my former coworkers give Spot the retirement he deserves. Thank you.
