Send Kelly to Eurofi!

Can we send a normal person to Europe's exclusive financial conference?

Kelly Agathos, host of The Schuman Show and chief explainer of pesky topics in EU affairs, is on a mission to join the biggest finance bros.

As explained in our most recent investigative Schuman File, influence comes at a cost - and buying acess is a widely accepted practice.

Eurofi is a private conference that caters to the biggest banks, investment funds and multinational corporations - Basically, all the big players in the financial sector. According to Financial Times, "there is growing unease in some quarters about the influence it allows lobbyists to wield [at Eurofi]". Follow The Money originally raised the question of the lack of transparency and alarming access.

The conference gives lobbyists direct access to the politicians who design the rules that say what banks can and can't do with our money. Decisionmakers make a point to show up to Eurofi, because the organisers follow the programmes of the meetings between European Ministers of finance and set up their conference in whatever city the politicians will be.

Access to politics and finance - at the cost of a whopping 50,000 EUR entry fee.

The next Eurofi conference will take place in Santiago de Compostela, this September.

According to their website, Eurofi is by invitation only and conducted under Chatham House rules... Of course it is.

Press isn't allowed at this mighty meeting. But can we get Kelly in? We'd like to find out what goes on behind those closed doors. After all, we can't let the big banks and financebros have all the fun...
