Hello, I’m Kevin.

I began suffering from extreme anxiety and depression as a teenager. I would have crippling panic attacks and that prevented me from finishing High School. I was able to get my GED and attempted to go to college. I tried to power through but it was overwhelming and I failed. Being young and ill-informed I ended up messing up my “attempted to completed” ratio and lost my financial aid. So I gave up and got a minimum wage job.

But after getting married and having children I was determined to try again. In 2012 I was told I could make an appeal due to medical reasons. I gathered all of my medical paperwork and spoke to multiple advisors and counselors. I was led to believe I had a shot at getting my financial aid back but finally I was told my efforts were all in vain.

I was devastated.

But now, 10 years later I wanted to try again. York Tech is offering tuition free classes. So I signed up once again but ,once again, there are complications. My GPA is currently a 1.9. The cutoff is 2.0. There is a glimmer of hope though that maybe, possibly, they might award some funds to people just below 2.0 like me. BUT I won’t know until after classes start!

So I’m just going for it. Throwing every last dollar earned, borrowed, or loaned at school to make it happen.

Anything given here will go to cover books, tools, and materials for school. I’m trying everything to undo my mistakes and make a better life for my family. Thank you.
