Keep Larriah Jackson at Howard University

Hi, my name is Larriah Jackson. I am 18 years old and from Sacramento California. As many of you know and I am pleased to announce I will be attending the illustrious Howard University in the Fall. I was accepted into the Chadwick Boseman College of Fine Arts as a classically concentrated vocal performance major. Being accepted to Howard has truly been a dream come true. Since I could remember I've always been one of the few or only African Americans in all my classes. Growing up my confidence is what pushed me to strive for greatness yet I always knew that I was a little bit different. From my appearance to my definition of parental figures I longed for an institution that defined me by my ability and my drive, not my circumstance and appearance. In being accepted to Howard I believe I found just that. I am so elated and so beyond grateful to my mother and grandmother who have supported me on every journey from my first performance at the age of three to my phenomenal experience on NBC's The Voice. Now we enter a new chapter. One where I get to spread my wings and prove to my beautiful family and my community that my story is just beginning. Thank you to everyone who has supported my journey thus far and I truly hope your faith in me persists. Howard University, here I come!
