Send MADDØG to London! (MA Program Fundraiser)

Haiii! I’m DJ MADDØG! I'm an international DJ, Music Producer, VJ, and Sound Engineer based in Indiana, USA. I've had the pleasure of sharing lineups with Kesha, Betty Who, Big Freedia, Girl Talk, and Matt & Kim. I like to think of myself as a social-forward and mission-driven artist, who creates a more equitable music community wherever I am in the world :) Since I was a little girl I've always looked up to creative women for inspiration, confidence, and personal power. Some of these women include Madonna, Janet Jackson, and heavy hitters of 90s club music like Lady Kier and Ya Kid K. As my career evolves one thing seems to stay the same, my industry is heavily male-dominated. The year is 2020, COVID-19 has threatened to halt my career. So I decided to take a chance and go big. In 2021, I studied Sound Engineering and Music Production in London to hone my skills for the “new normal”. I completely fell in love with London. I spent 2022 applying for a Global Talent Visa. My application was denied, but this does not discourage me from pursuing a DJ career in the place my artistic inspiration considers home. I have successfully been accepted into an MA program in London where I get the chance to get a degree in my creative practice of Turntablism. I feel this degree will open more doors than I could have ever imagined and thoroughly look forward to this opportunity to shine. Underrepresentation in my field, and the normalized unequal treatment that ensues, have gained momentum over the past five years. I want to combat this lack of diversity through my studies. I plan to explore ideas of how to create greater gender diversity in accessibility to artistic avenues of education and promote greater representation for femmes through mentorship opportunities. The end goal is to once again prove my proficiency for artistic contribution to the UK Art Council with hopes of a permanent Artist Visa. The degree is step one!
