Hi! My name is Aimee and I live in England. In 2019 I left an abusive relationship with my youngest son’s father and became homeless with my 2 sons, now 17 and 6. I found myself a retail job (That I absolutely loved) and worked all the hours under the sun throughout the pandemic and multiple lockdowns, and desperately tried to pick myself back up while sharing the box room of my dad’s house with my youngest son while my eldest son shared a bedroom with my dad.
In March 2021 I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer at the age of 33, started chemotherapy in June 2021 and finally finished it in May 2023. I also did a month of radiotherapy in 2022 (The radiotherapy actually kicked my arse more than the chemo did).
In August 2023 it unfortunately became obvious that I couldn’t go back to my retail job as I’d originally planned, it was far too physically demanding :(
I’m now on 2 different hormone therapies (1 daily, 1 monthly) until at least 2032, and the chemo and radiotherapy caused peripheral neuropathy/nerve damage pain which I’ve just this week been prescribed Gabapentin for (It’s going ~fine so far!). My GP stated that the effects from the cancer and the treatment are “likely to be lifelong” :(
I’m currently waiting on my Jobcentre Health Assessment to hopefully be accepted (Typically of them though, it’s looking like they’ve lost it which means starting the so far ~4 month long process all over again). Obviously money is extremely tight at times until any disability benefits I eventually qualify for are finally processed.
Thank you for reading!
