Hi friends and family!!
For the past year I've been experiencing a quarter-life crisis. I've been in school, working, moving several times and exploring a lot of the west coast (yay!). However, I don't know what I want to do with the rest of my life (shoot!)
To combat this I've been praying and trying to find the passions that I want to pursue for the rest of my life. One of these passions is to travel and gain a world view. I want to couple this with spreading God's love and learning more about the world we live in!
I decided to apply to YWAM (Youth With a Mission) back in September and recently I got accepted into their school. I'll be traveling to Biarritz, France and living and working in their community for before backpacking around Greater Europe to explore, love, and share God's word! The DTS (Discipleship Training School) I'll be doing is specifically backpacking focused and you can learn more about and see exactly what I'll be doing here here
YWAM DTS:
- is based in over 200 locations all over the world
- is a full-time program lasting five or six months
- consists of a lecture phase and outreach phase
- teaches through community living and practical training
- applies new skills during outreach phase
- can emphasize specific interest, area of service, or nation
WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
The first three months I will be living in Biarritz, France. Biarritz is a small town next to the sea and at the edge of the mountains. I will be learning how to live the Christian life that Oswald Chambers describes, one that requires us to be "exceptional in the ordinary things of life, and holy on the ordinary streets, among ordinary people." Through attending classes and lectures and learning more about myself through Jesus I will be preparing my heart to love and minister to the people I'll be living among and traveling to.
The second three months we will be embracing the nomadic spirit of backpacking. We’ll be staying in hostels, on church floors, camping or anywhere else God may put us throughout the outreach phase. This is in effort to reach the millions of people who are migrating, traveling through Europe, or simply backpacking for pleasure throughout the continent. Our intention is to meet them where they’re at and share the love of Jesus. Whether it be inviting them to dinner, serving them coffee, or just listening to them share their life, we intend to bring hope to the dead places in Europe, and share the raw gospel that is Jesus
WHEN WILL I LEAVE?
January 2nd! Yikes right? Normally students fundraise for around 6 months but I only recently knew that this was how I was supposed to spend this semester.
WHY AM I TELLING YOU ALL THIS?
To bring you along with me on my journey so that together we can reach the world for Christ. Because this is a major undertaking and big step of faith, your support in one or both of the following areas will help make this ministry successful:
Prayer
Please pray for safety. As we know, the world is volatile right now. With Europe struggling with the refugee crisis and so much political unrest, traveling can be risky.
Pray for receptivity to the gospel. Ask God to prepare the hearts of my team members, the people we encounter, and me. Pray we do not forget the reason we are there: To serve Christ and love people.
Pray for financial provision. Funding a mission can seem impossible! All YWAM staff and students volunteer their time and support themselves—pay their own airfare, room and board, food, ground transportation, and all other expenses. Pray that God provides the money needed for each member of my team.
Financial Provision
Speaking of financial provision, I would appreciate your help! I'm so blessed to have a job, opportunities, and parents who are willing to help me but life is expensive and I still need to raise a good deal of money. The entire trip cost around 7500 tentatively including airfare. I know it's a huge amount of money and 2 months is such a short amount of time to raise it in but I also know that God does amazing things and I have incredible friends and family!
There are many worthwhile causes requesting money, but by helping support me financially, you will be making an investment in me and my future and helping bring people into God's kingdom. How great is that!? Rather than sending me birthday presents or Christmas presents this December, please consider donating to my trip. Whether $5 or $500, anything you can give to support me in this ministry means so much ♥
