Send Mukund to Palestine!

Dear friends and family,

I have an incredible opportunity to go to Palestine for a week with a group of UC Berkeley graduate students in March. I have been involved in the Palestine solidarity movement since my first year in college. I've read about Palestine, seen photos and documentaries, talked to many Palestinians, and now finally have the opportunity to go in person. I'm so excited, but I need your support to get there! You can think about it as a late holiday present or early 25th birthday present. :)

What is the Palestine Trek?

The Palestine Trek was started at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in 2008 and is now at Berkeley! It has served 900 students since its inception, and has since been incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (PalTrek). The Trek cost is $1200 (covers all expenses for a week) and my flights are $1300 (those are the cheap ones!) Trekkers will be introduced to Palestinian heritage, history, people, and culture and learn about the reality of life under military occupation. We'll meet activists, artists, businesspeople, and politicians, and visit heritage and religious sites. This will likely include visiting Jerusalem, Ramallah, Rabawi, Bethlehem, Nablus, Haifa, Bedouin communities, etc. Here is Pal Trek's website. Check out this brief video from a few years ago of Harvard students sharing their experiences on the Trek.

This is my personal fundraising page, but Berkeley Pal Trek is also fundraising for the whole group! Please consider donating to our group page.

Who are you?

Great question. I'm a third-year law student at UC Berkeley. I first started work on Palestine when I was an undergrad at UT Austin. I've been involved in various organizations doing divestment, community education, cultural events, and have also done individual advocacy. Below are some op-eds I've written that will give you a feel for how I approach the issues.

Erwin Chemerinsky should address Palestine exception to free speech
Support for BDS is support for justice and open dialogue
Action against pro-Palestinian professor limits faculty freedom
From Palestine to Ferguson: resistance leads to state violence

What will you do?

In addition to the Trek activities, I am going to keep a daily journal of my travels that I'll be publishing online, along with pictures and videos. This will help me reflect on my experiences, and also show you the importance of your support! And of course, I would love to bring a gift from Palestine back for you. Plus, with some major luck, maybe I'll get a selfie with Rashida Tlaib. :)

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I truly appreciate any help you can give to make it possible. Thank you!
