Lifeboat in a Box: Send 'Mogens' to Mozambique
Mozambique is frequently hit by typhoons and heavy rainfall resulting in huge flooding and extensive loss of life through drowning. Sadly Mozambique has very little infrastructure to prevent drowning. This is where AtlanticPacific ("AP") comes into the picture.
AP is a UK based charity with the simple mission of providing lifeboats where there are none. With its "Lifeboat in a Box" concept, AP delivers a complete coastal rescue station in a 40ft container: the boat, repair shop, changing room, and communication station. In additional to the hardware, AP trains local volunteers on the ground to operate the lifeboat station and keeps in contact with the station over time to ensure it remains operational.
In 2017 I spent 32 days running 880km in the Pyrenees in support of AP's plan to send a Lifeboat in a Box to Mozambique. I raised £13,069, which was enough to pay for the lifeboat itself, which we have decided to name 'Mogens'.
But AP still needs another £80,000 in order to put Mogens in a Box and ship him off to Mozambique so he can go into active service there and save lives.
Mogens will be the first lifeboat that AP deploys in Africa. AP plans to make Mozambique its hub for further expansion in Africa.
Mozambique and many other Africa countries have huge coastal rescue needs. Please give generously so we can turn the tide on these horrible drowning deaths.
