Hello, if you don't know me, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Rendy Jones. I am a 21-year old African-American gender neutral film critic from NYC. I run a film criticism blog site named Rendy Reviews where I review the latest releases in film, interview talent for upcoming releases, and host a podcast series called "Rendy Ruins Your Childhood" which launches January 2020. I've been an active film critic since the age of 13. I'm currently the youngest independent film critic in both my field and my generation to have gone on and become a member of three film critic guilds including the Critics Choice Association (and yes, I'm currently a college student as well).
Last year, the Sundance Press Inclusion Initiative granted me a stipend to attend the festival in my first ever trip to the festival. They were very helpful with guiding me, a festival novice, through the procedures to ensure my presence for that festival. Sundance opened a doorway to a ton of new opportunities for me. It got me connected with so many incredible filmmakers that I still keep in touch with to this very day. It helped me further my career and transformed me into the person who I am today. This year, on my sophomore year as an accredited critic with a general press badge, I was denied a grant through the Press Inclusion Initiative in order to afford flight and transportation to the festival.
A kind hearted friend of mine offered me free hospitality in Salt Lake City for my time during the festival, the main conflict of the matter is driving up and down the mountain to Park City.
The money I'm asking for is for both flight ticket (which stands at $326 as of 12/21/19), and transportation. Prices for an Uberx (there aren't any pools to ever take you from Salt Lake to Park City) range from $25-50 per ride depending on both weather and traffic. Transportation is the major wild card that a large sum of the pledged earning must go to. I initially planned for this to launch after the holidays but I would love to at least book the flight ticket as soon as possible before it becomes affordable for me.
