Send relief, hope & love to Paul & Katie

Building on Vicky Love and Waddy Hammond's, Taft & Vanderbilt fund-raising supporting efforts, I created this GoFundMe as a vehicle to create cash flow to pay for travel to manage pain and to seek a cure.

As you all may know, Katie suffered a tragic SCUBA diving accident on May 11, 2018, while diving with her family in the Bahamas. This resulted in a traumatic spinal cord injury; her life has been forever changed in almost every way. Katie did not walk for the first six years. She suffers excruciating pain from nerve damage and is plagued by agonizing muscle spasms. Navigating life as a wheelchair-bound person is an overwhelming reality she faces daily.

Most recently, Katie has been able to walk, at least from the bedroom to the living room; Katie has been able to stand up and start to move. She needs therapy and muscle strengthening; for this reason, we are looking to raise funds for therapies along with the plan for Katie and Paul to travel to seek new ways to manage pain and to find a cure for the harrowing condition.

I visited Katie and Paul this past July. Seeing first-hand brings home the severity of the situation. Katie and Paul have been married for ten years. For the past six years, Paul has been taking care of Katie. They hope to create an enhanced schedule of therapies and alternative care for the future. One step at a time, one trip at a time, we need your help.
