Send St John's Slam Team to CUPSI!

This year, the St John’s Slam Team is stronger than ever with its second year attending the College Union International Poetry Slam Invitational (CUPSI). The University of Houston will host this year’s spoken word/poetry competition from April 10th-13th. Our finalists, Eboney, Yacko, Gessie, Jaymi and Faye will represent St. John’s University, headed by our Head Coach, Soré Agbaje and Co-Coach, Khadjiah Johnson. We are proud to not only represent St. John’s University, but to also represent Queens, NY on an international literary stage.

What drives our writing is the power of the personal narrative. As a team, we interweave our individual narratives of race, gender, class and ethnicity to tell a single story. We work collaboratively to showcase issues that matter to our communities, St. John’s University’s student body, as well as ourselves. We invest time each week to prepare for CUPSI, but in order to see the fruits of our labor and make it to the CUPSI stage, we need your investment as well.

We hope that finances don’t stand in the way of us sharing our stories and representing St. John’s University at CUPSI. We appreciate all the help we can get. Every little bit counts!
