Send Shelby to New York
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Andrew Koenig and I’m lucky enough to be dating Shelby Hirschberg, the beautiful girl in that photo up there. Shelby is a senior theatre major at Abilene Christian University and she needs your help.
Shelby is one of the hardest working people I know. Shortly after transferring to ACU she had already started working not one, but two jobs. She has worked one to two jobs every semester she’s been at school as well as working whatever odd jobs she could find, be it painting a fence or donating plasma or babysitting. All while enrolled as a full time student. And when she leaves school she spends her summers working too. This young woman is the opposite of lazy.
The incredible theatre program here at ACU culminates in the opportunity to spend our final semester as seniors in New York through the Tepper Semester, a partnership with Syracuse University. Through the Tepper Semester Shelby would be offered an average of 15 master classes outside of 19 credit hours, she would attend over 30 productions exposing her to numerous theatrical genres, be taught by exceptional artists (composers, agents, directors etc) in the industry, and have the opportunity to begin to create a national network of emerging artists that will benefit her long after she graduates.
This program is incredible and while the overall cost is largely discounted, it is still a considerable amount of money outside of our normal tuition cost for a semester. Shelby’s parents are incredibly supportive and financially they help her out as much as they can, but they’ve got three daughters in college and her dad lost his job recently due to downsizing. She pays for her own food, her own rent and all her own day to day living expenses.
Shelby is currently taking 15 credit hours while working 15-20 hours a week and has been looking for another job, but even with her determined work ethic there is simply no way she can come up with the money for Tepper on top of rent, food, and school expenses. I’ve seen this sweet girl go without a meal too many times, simply because she just could not afford it.
Shelby has been singing and dancing and acting since she was a little girl. Since being accepted into the program at ACU she has been cast in four shows, two of which as a featured dancer and dance captain. She auditioned for and was accepted into Sanctify, a campus hip-hop dance crew, and was cast in several student films the last two years. She also started a weekly worship gathering for our program that has been a blessing to our department. This semester she’s been busy co-choreographing dance numbers for a cabaret headlined by Ben Jeffrey, an ACU alum and Broadway veteran who has played Pumbaa on Broadway for the last five years. She does all this while passing her classes and holding down a job. How she does it I’ll never know, but needless to say she is unbelievably talented.
I know that attending Tepper has been a dream of Shelby’s since being accepted here. If I could I would send her myself but I can’t, so I desperately need your help. You have the opportunity to make this caring, determined, hard working girl’s dream a reality, as well as guarantee her a quality educational experience that will set her up for future success. She goes out of her way to make people smile on a daily basis, and I’d be so grateful if you would help me repay that kindness and bring a smile to her face. Thank you.
