THE SECOND SCHOOL YEAR IS HERE!
Meet the Baraka family! Mr. and Mrs. Baraka and their eight beautiful children: Rachelle, Renee, Raimond, Remi, Renard, Rosamonde, Rupert, and Roxanne (names changed for security reasons). As refugees from Congo, the Baraka family has overcome incredible hardship and trauma to live a safer life in Dar es Salaam, but even safety has come at a cost. None of the eight Baraka children were able to attend school during the two following years to leaving Congo as they are not allowed to attend public schools.
With your help, in 2018 the eight Baraka children were able to go to school! They started from scratch, having to attend lower classes due to the 2 year gap suffered after they had to flee DRC and having to learn English in order to keep up with a new education system they were not used to. Despite all these difficulties, the eight children have made significant improvements in their studies! They have acquired a good level of English and continue to study very hard every day to try to become the best students in their class.
For these children, studying is an amazing opportunity that can make a difference in their futures. An uncertain future which is hard to imagine when being a refugee but that, thanks to this school year, has become a little clearer in their dreams.
You know their story and probably thanks to you they were able to study last year. Help us once more to give this inspiring family the future and opportunities they deserve by making this opportunity a reality. Let's make them continue at school!

Who are we?
We are Maria Fernanda and Sofia, two expats who were lucky enough to get to know the Baraka family personally during 2017 and 2018.
We were in Tanzania from September 2017 to June 2018, volunteering with an organization that provides legal services to urban refugees in Dar es Salaam. Maria Fernanda represented the Baraka family as their lawyer, and upon hearing the parents’ concerns over their lack of education, started devoting her time to find a way to get these kids in school. Sofia had the absolute pleasure of teaching English to seven of the Baraka children and was inspired by their eagerness to learn, commitment to education, and humor in the face of hardship. Together, we set out to do what we knew was possible, help the Baraka family children get back on track to realize their dreams of being doctors, pilots, and lawyers. And THANKS TO YOU we made this idea a reality: One School Year is already over!
After hearing about the struggles the Baraka family faces and wanting to give these children a future, we found the first donor who was ready to help. A friend living in Tanzania has agreed to cover 60 percent of the tuition for all eight children to be enrolled in an International school in Dar es Salaam. His incredibly generous contribution helped to get the children registered and begin classes in 2018 and is committed to continue funding their education once more. However, we still need your help to make up the remaining 40 percent.
Their church community has helped them find a safe place to sleep and a sense of belonging, but because refugee children aren’t allowed to attend public schools in Tanzania, their future is still grim.

By donating to our campaign, your contribution will allow eight beautiful children to continue accessing the education they deserve. We cannot tell you enough how amazing these kids are and how much they have welcomed us into their lives by sharing their smiles and their stories.
Your donation will allow us to achieve the following, one more time:
1. Enroll Rachelle, Renee, Raimond, Remi, and Renard in an international secondary school for the 2019 school year. ($750 per child, for a total of $3,750)
2. Enroll Rosamonde, Rupert and Roxanne in an international primary school for the 2019 school year. ($750 per child, for a total of $2,250)
3. Provide school uniforms and shoes for all eight children. ($250 total)
4. Provide necessary notebooks and textbooks for seven of the children. ($250 total)
The total cost to send the eight Baraka children to school for one year is $6,500. As we mentioned, a donor has generously covered over 60 percent of the costs for the Barakas’ school fees. This means we only have $2,500 to go to help these kids attend school for the year.
PLEASE, TAKE INTO ACCOUNT WE ARE USING THE SAME CAMPAIGN AS LAST YEAR. This means you will see our goal is to reach $5,000 but $2,500 were already fundraised last year. WE NEED TO REACH $5,000 to cover THIS YEAR'S SCHOOL FEES!
No intermediary exists between your donation and the children! Settling this campaign and all the efforts made in Tanzania by the sponsor and other friends in Dar es Salaam are on a complete voluntary basis! Your donation will be withdrawn once we reach our goal and will be directly used to pay school institutions and materials.
Once we reach our fundraising goal, however, we want to keep going! Every cent that gets donated will allow us to keep the Baraka kids in school for longer. One year is a good start, let's continue with the second one! However, ideally, we want to raise $10,000 to help give these children an education in the long term.
The administration at the school has worked with us to accept all eight children despite their missing documents and status as refugees. At the school, all the children will receive a quality education, transportation to and from, and two hot meals a day.
