June 12, 2024 will always be a date that Denis Courchesne remembers. It was the day Denis had a job interview at the new company he was hoping to work for. Unfortunately, earlier that day it was also the day he had received the devistating news that he had stage 3 esophageal cancer.
Denis knew he was going to need to fight this disease and couldnt take the job he had been offered.
Surgery for an esophagectomy was booked for late November, but before that date Denis would be in and out of the hospital due to complications from the feeding tube that needed to be inserted to support his cancer treatments. The November surgery came with a 2 week stay in the hospital. Although still unable to eat, he was happy to be released just before Christmas so he could spend it with his children and granddaughter.
It was just a few days before Denis had to be rushed to the hospital for another 2 weeks stay, and another feeding tube inserted due to complications from his surgery. Denis hoped he was on his way to recovery. He planned to start looking for work and putting the difficult process behind him. That's when he found himself back in the hospital for an additional 7 weeks. During that time his body began to betray him. He had become so weak from all the treatments, the cancer and lack of being able to eat. Denis found himself 50 pounds lighter, weak, and unable to walk with out the assistance of a walker.
Denis is now faced with the challenge of how he is going to support himself. He has depleted his savings to support his fight for cancer. Going from a strong capable working electrician to needing a walker to walk. He is wanting to earn an income, but at 66 years old, and being physically unable to work he has been left in a terrible financial situation. This is not what Denis had planned for. Due to his age, he doesn't qualify for many of the social assistance programs. Denis needs your help. He is still fighting to live both from this terrible health crisis, and financially being able to live.
Please donate so that Denis can fight to get stronger, so that he can one day support himself again.
