Seniors Comfort Baskets – You Are Not Forgotten

Help us support our seniors during COVID-19 with ONE donation!

Operation #SeniorsComfortBaskets is an initiative to provide seniors of  Northend Community, living below the poverty line, with comfort baskets that deliver not only the essential and basic care items but provides dignity, hope, and the fact of knowing You Are Not Alone & Not Forgotten!

All seniors are the matriarch of our communities. I personally know several of the great ladies now infected and fighting to stay alive and those who are not gone due to the devastation of COVID-19.  Seniors who helped build, raise,  and nurture the youth within the communities. Seniors who deserve better.

Our fundraising campaign goal is to seek funds to create 100 Seniors Comfort Baskets.  Every dollar will help and, 100% of funds will go towards the filling of baskets. Distributed will focus on the seniors in low-income buildings in areas in HRM.

COVID-19 has a severe economic impact on the daily lives of individuals, communities, schools, churches, businesses, and medical organizations.

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically impacted everyone including our marginalized seniors. In these times of crisis, this demographic is often marginalized, unnoticed, or not top of mind. But, if each one takes care of the next, we can get through this crisis.  Therefore, we cannot forget about our seniors who are living in poverty, isolated, worried, scared about their future.  We all know a few.

Seniors deserve dignity and respect as they are the matriarchs of our society.

Deemed one of the most vulnerable groups with severe reactions to COVID-19 is seniors. Countless seniors in our communities are living in poverty, dealing with pre-existing health issues, and are now faced with additional COVID-19 stress.  Fear, anxiety, and loneliness compounded with the now mandatory isolation cutting them off from their daily activities, friends, and families. With today’s technology (social media) used as another form to connect, gain readily available COVID-19 information and bring people together from the comfort of their homes. Many seniors are off the grid due to the inability to afford internet or cell phones, creating an even more difficult time.

Seniors Comfort Baskets are a lifeline to seniors in this COVID – 19 Pandemic.

Each basket has essential items required to nourish, protect, and replace some of the fear with calmness into their home. (face masks, food, essential and personal items plus some games books, puzzles etc.) to enhance their focus and Mental Health. Most importantly, each Seniors Comfort Basket is built with love from you, and designed to share a little comfort while letting seniors know, they are Not Alone and Not Forgotten.

Seniors helped build our communities and in these trying times, our seniors should know they are Not Alone and Not Forgotten.

As a result, we are launching a fundraising campaign seeking funds to create 100 Seniors Comfort Baskets.  To start, 100% of funds will go towards the filling of baskets. Distributed will focus on the seniors in low-income buildings in areas in HRM.  As funding grows, we will expand to other areas in Nova Scotia.  All baskets will be circulated to those seniors who need support during these unprecedented times following the public health guidelines and social distancing.
