Holocaust Survivor Needs Help to Stay in Home
Donation protected
I have taken in a 91 year old holocaust survivor. I basically rescued her from a very bad situation. I have known Madeline for about 15 years, she has no family and never had children. I am a single mom with 3 kids and I too have no family other then my kids so we basically adopted one another.
I knew that although I did not have room that I would make room and make any sacrifice I had too to get her out of this bad situation and into a home where she is loved and cared for. I gave her my main floor and gave up a living room and dining room so she could have space for a bedroom and sitting room so she could still feel independent and have her things. We love her like a mom/grandma. She has always given to others and is so kind I can’t imagine how anyone could be cruel to her but yet it happened. She could never have children of her own due to the experiments and treatments in the concentration camp which left her unable to conceive as well as a permanent injury to her leg/foot.
The issue is that I only have a powder room on the main floor and due to her age and injury inflicted to her in the concentration camp she cannot walk up and down the stairs. It is unsafe for her and if she fell it would be very dangerous for her if she broke a hip or worst.
She is so happy to be with us, she has colour in her cheeks now, she loves that she can have her tea and watch the birds in the backyard and have the sun come through the window. She has told me many times that since she has been with us she feels like she was released from prison. She feels alive and happy and grateful and it warms her heart to wake up to us everyday which in turn makes us happy.
I am asking for financial help so I can modify the bathroom on the main floor so she can continue to be independent and safe. Your generosity is appreciated. If you cannot donate please share and circulate this post.
Thank you.
