Senior with 2 types of Breast Cancer seeks Support

Hello Everyone! My name is Dorcas but everyone calls me Dee. I’m reaching out to you today to share how life has unfolded in the most challenging way possible. I’m a 60-year-old African American Women currently residing in Houston Texas and I’m in desperate need of your help. I’ve had to overcome a few things, yet life has thrown me another unexpected curve ball that I am fighting to overcome with both Grace and Resiliency!

On November 14, 2023, I received the devastating news that I was diagnosed with not one but two forms of Breast Cancer in both breasts, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC) and Ductal Carcinoma in situ (DCIS). It is rare that a woman gets both types of cancer at the same time and unfortunately, I happen to be one of the few. I am scheduled for a bilateral mastectomy January 8, 2024, which is a challenging procedure that will require significant time and energy to recover.

My current financial situation is dire as I am now unemployed and focusing on my health issues so that I can address my Cancer diagnosis. I’ve always been a hard worker and a self-reliant Individual and as much as I would Love to be working, I won’t be able to as the Journey ahead is filled with medical treatments, surgeries, and the uncertainty that comes with battling Cancer. With my main monthly expenses Rent, Car note, Insurance, copays and medications that all piles up, my savings are not great enough to sustain and cover me.

I am a Woman of Faith. I have faith in an Almighty God, and I have faith in the compassion of others. I’ve always believed in the strength of community and the kindness of strangers. I’m hopeful that together, we can turn this difficult chapter of my life into a story of resilience and triumph. Every donation, no matter how small will help.
