Seniors Meet Your Neighbours Event

Hello!
My name is Mike and I represent a group of seniors who are passionate about engaging with our neighbours. We want to initiate a annual block party to welcome new comers and bring together residents who have been here for decades. Our neighbourhood has not always been a safe and friendly place but it is quickly changing with new development and condo buildings. Unfortunately, some of these changes have brought in a feeling of segregation and gentrification.
We want to be apart of these community changes rather than get lost in the shuffle. We see an annual block party as an opportunity to re-create a sense of community. Food and conversation has a way of bringing people together.
We have a lovely park that we can use for BBQ gatherings; however, we lack the funds to put one there. The seniors in this neighbourhood are retired and living on a fixed income. There are neighbours who have difficultly making decisions about paying the rent or having enough food in the fridge. Food security is actually an ongoing problem for many of us.
Your donation will go towards a charcoal BBQ that will be available to the residents in our seniors buildings.
We want to feed each other, make friendships, and establish a positive and friendly community. We also see the BBQ as being a great year-round amendity for neighbours to visit with each other.
