SEQUOIA'S BILATERAL TPLO SURGERY
Donation protected
My name is Alyssa and I am the dog mom to an incredible pup. I know many of you follow her & love her on IG @sequoiathebully.
Sadly, my sweet girl Sequoia needs bilateral TPLO surgery. This means she tore not one, but both of her CCLs (ACLs for humans). She started limping on and off after physical activity within a few months of us adopting her. We would rest her and it would get better, until about a month ago. Her right leg got progessively worse and after resting it for a while, never improved. We took her in to get examined and they took x-rays of both legs to compare and to our shock, both legs were torn.
It has been determined by our surgeon that this is a genetic issue, something we were not aware of, as she was adopted. Her genetics from birth and the life she endured before her adoption are the main culprits. Add in play / physcial activity and this was bound to happen. This was not something I could have avoided whether it happened now or in the future. I would normally never ask for help but I work for myself in the film industry and work has been incredibly slow due Hollywood's writers and actors being on strike.
Both I and her medical team have decided to do both at the same time, which is a huge cost to bear. I do have pet health insurance for her, but there is a significant amount that isn't covered. In addition to the surgery, there is always the risk of additional costs for complications and she will need a lot of things to help with her recovery: therapy, a belly sling, mind-stimulating games while she's immobile, toys, bones, meds and so much more. In the year that we have had her, she has had many vet visits for various issues, costing dog mom a lot & this is an expense I knew could be a risk, but wished I would never have to face.
I have an incredible team that I fully trust to perform this which includes surgeon Dr. Ian Gordon Holsworth and his team at VetSurg in Ventura, CA. I want nothing more than to get her back to hiking, running, playing fetch and playing with her four-legged friends. She is barely 2 years old and it breaks my heart that she has to go through this. But I know this is the best route to go for her so she can live a long, active life and get back to her spunky, silly self.
To keep everyone in the loop I will post updates here and on her IG of our journey through her surgery and recovery. I would NEVER use these funds for anything other than expenses for Sequoia's surgery and recovery.
I know times are hard for a lot of us right now, but anything is greatly appreciated! If you can't financially contribute, please keep my girl in your thoughts and send good vibes our way. If you have any questions, you can always DM me @sequoiathebully.
All My Love,
Alyssa
