Sergeant Station Commander Salvatore (Sam) A. Mattina
On Friday, September 13th, 2024 at 1:30pm, my older brother, 10 year Veteran Sgt. Station Commander Salvatore Mattina of the Town of Niagara Trooper barracks, was in a motorcycle accident while on duty. Sam was in the midst of a recon ride for the Biker's Unite Dice Run for Mercy Flight when another driver failed to yield the right of way, causing him to crash. Sam was rushed to ECMC where he has needed several surgeries, blood transfusions and immediate medical attention for his brain bleed and multiple complex fractures, including his nose, orbital bone, shoulder, elbow, sternum, pelvis, arm, tibia, fibia, and ankle.
Sam has a long road of recovery ahead of him and will be wheelchair bound for several months during this complicated healing process with countless medical procedures and expenses coming and already accruing, including needing to renovate his home to accommodate a wheelchair.
Sam is a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He makes every room brighter and fills everyone's hearts with joy and love. He is a hero to many people and has saved many lives in the line of duty.
