Diabetic Alert Dog for Aubrei

Donation protected
Meet Aubrei. She is our beautiful, talented, loving 13 yr old daughter. If you know Aubrei, you can easily see these qualities in her. What you might also see is her continuous glucose monitor and insulin pump. She is a Type 1 diabetic, and these two devices work simultaneously to help keep Aubrei alive every day. She cannot go one single day, not even one meal or snack, without needing insulin to keep her blood sugar at a safe level. Our bodies regulate our blood sugar on their own, but her's cannot, whatsoever. She's been admitted to the hospital numerous times, and has had 3 life flights so far. Sounds a little scary or burdensome, right? It can be. Absolutely can be. But this girl has spent over 3 years being one of the strongest and most persevering people that I know. Adults included. She's a SURVIVOR.

With all that being said, we still need help. Aubrei's mental health has taken a toll from this disease. It's not an easy age to begin with, and we're adding a life-long auto-immune disease on top of it. She has a weight on her shoulders that other kids her age can't even fathom. She takes on a lot of her daily care herself, because she wants to be independent and self-sufficient.

After speaking with family and doctors, we believe that the best way that we could help keep Aubrei healthy, without losing her independence and to try to bring back more joy in her daily life, is to get her a service dog. A diabetic alert dog would be able to alert Aubrei to changing or dangerous blood sugar levels, both high and low, and allowing her to act early. Most importantly though, this dog would be her companion. She would be able to take her service dog to school, the park, the store, to the pool, her future job. Anywhere at all, for years to come. Having this type of companion would lift her spirits immensely. She wouldn't feel as alone in her disease.

These alert dogs go through many months of intense, vigorous training. This doesn't come with a cheap price tag. We are hoping that you would be willing to help us, by donating even a few dollars or simply sharing her story, to fund the money needed to adopt and care for a service dog for Aubrei. We would appreciate your help more than you could ever know!
