Help save Gracie: Surgery to relieve her pain.

Donation protected

Dear Friends and Animal Lovers,

On May 22, 2022, tragedy struck when Gracie's devoted human companion, who was blind, unexpectedly passed away due to a heart attack. Gracie, a loyal and loving service dog, lost not only her Dad but also her constant companion and source of comfort. Since that heartbreaking day, Gracie has been struggling with her own health challenges.

Gracie has developed two large tumors that are causing her immense pain and suffering. There is a grapefruit-sized tumor on her chest and a lemon-sized tumor on her right leg. These tumors not only cause her pain but also put her at risk of severe infections and complications.

I am a senior living on a fixed income, relying solely on social security to make ends meet. The cost of the surgery to remove Gracie's tumors is beyond my means, and I'm faced with an impossible choice – to put Gracie down or to seek your support and compassion.

Gracie has been a constant source of love and companionship, not just to me but to her late Dad as well. She has touched our lives in immeasurable ways, providing emotional support and unconditional love. I cannot bear to see her suffer, and I don't want to say goodbye prematurely.

That's why I'm reaching out to all of you for help. We are seeking to raise $2752 to cover the cost of Gracie's much-needed surgery. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in Gracie's life. Your contribution will directly impact her health and well-being, giving her a chance at a pain-free and happy life.

Please consider opening your hearts to Gracie's cause. Together, we can ensure that Gracie receives the medical care she desperately needs to alleviate her pain and improve her quality of life.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and compassion.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Glen Hubbard and Gracie

UPDATE: I drove an hour north to Arlington Washington and consulted with a surgeon at Family Pet Surgery. Their estimate was half what Rainier Vet wanted now $2752. :-) We are at 45% of our goal!

Excision
Your pet had surgery today. The following are home care instructions. Incision: -Your pet may have
had internal and skin sutures or staples placed. The internal sutures will dissolve on their own, but skin
sutures and staples need to be removed in 10-14 days. Please call to schedule their removal. -Minor
amounts of redness, swelling, or discharge around the surgery site can be normal, but if it seems
excessive, give us a call for further instructions. There may be mild bruising or fluid accumulation
around the incision site over the next 3-4 days but this should improve over time. -Keep the e-collar on
for at least the next 10-14 days to prevent licking at surgery sites. It can be removed for your pet to eat
and drink, only if you are able to directly and constantly monitor him or her while it is off. Most of the
time, an animal will adjust well to the e-collar and can eat and drink with it on. Food and Water -You
can offer a small amount of food and water tonight, but often animals do not eat or drink much right
after surgery. Be careful – excessive water or food the same day as surgery may cause vomiting.
Feeding in small amounts will help prevent vomiting. -Your pet should resume normal water and food
consumption the day after surgery. Exercise -Please keep your pet warm, quiet, and resting for the
next 48 hours. -Your pet’s activity should be restricted for the next 14 days. It would be best if you can
confine him or her to a quiet room or small area at home, especially for the first few days. -Your pet
may be a bit sleepy for the rest of the day from the anesthesia, which is normal. He or she may also
vocalize more than normal but this should subside over the next 12 to 24 hours. There may be minor
weakness or disorientation for a period lasting up to 24 hours as an after-effect of the anesthetic. As a
precaution, keep your pet away from areas where he or she could fall or be injured. Monitoring: Call a
veterinarian immediately if you notice any of the following: -decreased appetite after a few days -licking
or chewing at incision -bleeding -vomiting or diarrhea -swelling or discharge at surgical site Postsurgery
Pain Medication: -Please follow all directions on medications sent home and discussed
verbally by your tech. If you have any questions about medications, give us a call for clarification.

Bandage- Medium
Your pet had a bandage, splint, or cast placed today. The following are home care instructions. -It is
very important that the bandage be kept clean and dry. This means that if your dog goes outside to
potty, the bandage should be protected using a bootie or plastic bag. This protective covering needs to
be removed after coming back inside to prevent condensation on the inside of the covering, which can
then damage the bandage. -If the bandage gets wet or soiled, call the office immediately. We may ask
you to send us pictures of the bandage or to bring your pet in for an appointment. -Do not allow your
pet to chew or lick the bandage. Depending on the placement of the bandage, an Elizabethan collar
(cone of shame) or t-shirt could be used to prevent licking or chewing. If the bandage does get
damaged, call the office immediately.
