Service-learning trip in rural Jamaica
Donation protected
My name is Madison and I am a second year Doctor of Physical Therapy student at Duke University. In December I will be heading to St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica with 6 of my classmates with the non-profit ForU Rehab. The organization was founded in 2007 by a Duke DPT alum who wanted to bring healthcare to an underresourced community in rural Jamaica. During the 10 day intensive program we will work with individuals who have suffered from a stroke and don't have access to the proper healthcare to work towards recovery - there is only one rehab center that provides care to over 150,000 residents! I am so grateful to be able to participate in this service-learning trip and practice my clinical skills as I prepare to specialize in neurological physical therapy.
This trip is going to be so memorable, rewarding, and instrumental in my growth as a person and physical therapy student. My goal is to make my way back to Chicago to work at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab treating patients with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, stroke, Parkinson's, and other neurological conditions. Thank you for your support!!
