100% of every dollar donated to Serving Asylum Seekers (SAS) will be used:
To provide food, clothing and essential personal items to the asylum seekers. All donations raised will be sent directly to the Team Brownsville operating fund. This ensures that each dollar donated is made available quickly, is used in an efficient ethically sound manner, and is directed to the greater effort to be used precisely where the funding need is greatest.
To fund the safe and efficient ground transportion of volunteers from Vermont and greater New England to the Southern Border in Brownesville, Texas. These volunteers will join those already on-site to provide desperately needed manpower to assist with cooking and other tasks, and provide the Team Brownesville volunteers who have been working nonstop for years with a welcome respite.
Why we need your help:
Both the SAS and the Team Brownsville organzations, as well as the individual volunteers which define them are driven by shared and deeply held, apolitical set of beliefs and values regarding the basic human rights all people deserve, and the responsibilty they feel to reduce the suffering of others where they can. The Asylum seekers we are helping are out of options and resources, as they left their possesions, homes, and lives when they were forced to flee a wave of violence murders and rapes perpetuated on them and their family members as the turf wars of the various drug cartels spilled into the town where they lived their entire lives.
These families are running for their lives in the hopes of finding safety in the United States, but have no way to sustain themselves during the bureaucratic process they are facing. SAS volunteers are compelled to take action by a sense of responsibilty felt to assist those in dire need and ensure that these men, women, and children are at least provided the food needed to keep them alive. Thousand of diverse like-minded people, religious groups, secular groups, and humanitarian organizations who share these core American values have joined our call to help people who are terrified and suffering right now. These are families who would be starving, if not for the wonderfully generous work of Team Brownesville. Please join us with a donation to fufill our determination to live out the values of the country we all love.
In the words of a Team Brownsville member: " We continue to welcome new volunteers here in Brownsville, as well as supporters around the world. We want people to know that we support human rights and the legal process of asylum seeking. We will continue to serve asylum seekers who do not have the means to serve themselves, through meals, clothing , bedding, toiletries , sleeping arrangements , backpacks and snack bags for traveling across the country. We serve all people equally without regards to race, religion, sexual preference, disability or national origin. ❤️"
