#SetTheExpectation SJSU & Stanford

Tax deductible
My name is Brenda Tracy and I am the survivor of a gang rape by four football players. After coming forward with my story in 2014, I quickly realized that educating, engaging, and inspiring men and coaches to become involved in the fight against sexual assault and physical violence was what I was most passionate about.

As a society, we hear a lot about men being the problem. However, I don’t believe we can talk about men as the problem unless we are also willing to talk about them as the solution.

#SetTheExpectation is a campaign that engages male athletes and their coaches as the solution. Through education, men’s engagement and raising awareness, I believe we can make our campuses and surrounding communities safer for everyone.

Last year, Stanford University hosted the first ever #SetTheExpectation game. It was an amazing moment in football history. This year, after sharing my story with the football team, San Jose State has decided to join the movement. I’m happy to announce that BOTH SJSU and Stanford will be hosting #SetTheExpectation games on Oct 6th and I have the honor of attending both!

All over the country, I ask football programs to use their platform and influence to affect change on their campuses and in their communities and now I would like to use that platform and the power of the STE campaign to give back. It’s vitally important that we support local community agencies so that they can continue their important work.

The Silicon Valley YWCA serves thousands of sexual assault, domestic violence and human trafficking survivors every year in the surrounding SJSU and Stanford communities.

Services include:

• Sexual Assault: 24-hour crisis line for survivors, family members, and friends; medical advocacy; legal advocacy; counseling and prevention programs for children, teens and the general community.

• Domestic Violence: Services include: 24-hour crisis line; counseling; emergency shelter; legal advocacy; safety planning and domestic violence education.

• Human Trafficking: Education, advocacy, case management, and therapeutic services for human trafficking survivors, including CSEC (commercially sexually exploited children).

We’ve all seen the scandals in the media involving football programs, players and coaches. Coach Brennan and Coach Shaw are dedicated to changing the narrative. Let’s support them and use the power of football to make a difference. Let’s #SetTheExpectation and give back!

Thank you for your support.
