Disseminated Valley Fever - Medical Help

Valley Fever Has Uprooted My Life

I’m not sure who has heard, but I have been very sick these past 4-5 weeks. I was diagnosed with Disseminated Valley Fever on 11/09/23 after being misdiagnosed since 10/24/23.
Due to me being a full-time nanny at this time this disease had taken over my body. I lost my job on 11/9/23 due to being in the hospital for so long. It has caused the worst financial strain on me and my family.

It’s been horrible. I’ve lost 25 lbs., vomiting daily, nausea, back pain, leg cramps, and can barely walk nor breath with the pneumonia this has given me. I spent 1 to 2 weeks in the hospital twice on Fluconazole and Amphotericin B treatments "3x a Week" which are equal to chemotherapy treatments.

My hair is falling out, my body is so weak and I barely can hold food down. I am only 26 years old - with an immunocompromised system and some days it feels like it’s killing me. I have 6-8 weeks of infusions with a PICC line and I was told I’ll be on Fluconazole lifelong.

"This disease is horrible and honestly ruining my life at 26"

I had to put college on hold for two semesters and lean on my boyfriend’s family to help with his four year daughter due to me not being able to watch her while he worked throughout the mornings.

This financial burden almost made us late on our rent payments. We are barely able to afford groceries right now let alone cover medical bills. The financial strain is enough in itself.

During treatments, I cannot work so I will be off at-least until March 2024. I had erythema nodosum all over my legs, feet, and arms which has caused me so much pain and I struggle to walk.

Valley Fever is not talked about enough and it’s so easy to catch. It’s called the silent killer for a reason. All I ask is for your prayers and support during all of this. Especially for my boyfriend who has been holding down the fort the best of his ability for our family. During this time of weekly treatments, due to my symptoms I am unable to drive. It’s been very rough...

A huge thank you to my family support and keeping me strong through these times of need.
