Sewing For Ottawa

Donation protected
We are a group of volunteers sewing and donating headbands and scrub caps with buttons to our local hospitals to help save the ears of our frontliners.  COVID-19 has created the need for them to wear facemasks all day, every day and the bands have been cutting into their ears.  The buttons lift the ear bands to relieve the pressure.

We have various Ottawa area hospital units submitting requests daily.  As of today, April 10th, we have donated 510 scrub caps and 1154 headbands and still have requests for another 1077 scrub caps and 1519 headbands!

We are also starting to expand to include masks for the general public as Canada has officially updated their stance and are recommending that all individuals wear a mask when in public to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

Your donation will be used to purchase much need materials  - fabric, buttons, and elastic.  Headbands are approximately $1 to make while Scrub caps are approximately $7.  We have a local fabric shop in Ottawa - Mimi Fabrics - selling us fabric at cost.

We are looking to the community to help us equip everyone with what we need to keep us all safe!  I am so impressed and so proud of how Ottawans have come together to fight this thing!  Together we can stop this virus!

If you are a frontliner wanting to place a request for your unit, please join this group: Frontline Workers Requests
If you are a sewist who would like to become involved, please join this facebook group: Sewers Org

Any funds unused by the end of this initiative will be donated to the Ottawa Food Bank.

Thank you so much for your help!
