Seyli’s wish….

This is the fundraiser I didn’t want to do but realize it’s unfortunately necessary, as we’ve run out of options.

We all know Seyli as being one of Kenner’s most active and involved residents. She’s been a community organizer for a while and has helped the community with housing, legal assistance, legislation to help our most vulnerable residents, assisted with final arrangements for a child during a tragedy, toy drives, school supplies and too much more to name here.

And now tragedy has struck her household. As many of you know, Seyli was diagnosed with endometrial cancer almost three years ago. She immediately began treatment and was in remission. Unfortunately it was temporary as the cancer had spread to other organs. Another round of treatment was ordered but Seyli was recently told the treatments weren’t successful and there’s no other options. Her care team has given her less than a year.

And that’s where you come in. As some of you may know, Seyli’s house had significant damage from Ida. The insurance company has unfairly denied a significant part of the damage claim and like a lot of companies who were servicing our are, went out of business.

Seyli and her husband have been staying with extended family ever since the storm. They’ve been slowly working on the repairs when they were able to get supplies, friends to assist with labor or inexpensive day laborers, extra income and the actual energy (Seyli was going through chemotherapy and later radiation, which is debilitating and takes most of your energy away). Because of the change in her status, time and funds are essential. Barring a miracle, Seyli would like to be in her own home surrounded by her family and loved ones if she’s run out of options.
