SFMOMA Staff Mutual Aid
Donation protected
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) Mutual Aid Fund is a community-based fundraiser established by and for the workers of SFMOMA. The fund is independent of the museum; it is run by current museum employees who believe in mutual aid as one significant way to support colleagues who face financial hardship during this uncertain and challenging time.
Following SFMOMA’s closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting layoffs, furloughs, and reduction in hours for some staff, this fund aims to provide direct support to current and former SFMOMA staff members in need. The loss in salary represents a great hardship for many of us, particularly given the high cost of living in the Bay Area.
100% of all funds raised will be disbursed to current and former workers of SFMOMA who are facing financial hardship due to the March and June 2020 layoffs, recent furloughs, or other personal financial difficulties related to employment during the pandemic. Donated funds can be used to help cushion basic financial needs, such as rent, food, and medical bills.
Within three days of receiving Aid Applications here, our Aid Disbursement Committee will contact the individual requesting aid to discuss their specific need, and determine the best method for disbursing funds to them. Initial disbursements will be limited to $500 per individual. As the fund continues to grow, there may be opportunity to offer additional aid disbursements to applicants.
We are currently fundraising $50,000. Disbursements will be ongoing, confidential, and overseen by a fund committee.
We know that this is a hard time for many people. Thank you so much for considering a donation — no amount is too small. And whether or not you can financially support the fund, we hope you will share the link to this page with others who might be in a position to contribute.
Though the museum is closed, our work has not stopped. We are a highly motivated group, and we see this mutual aid drive as central to our collective effort to help and sustain one another in an equitable and empowering manner. We stand in solidarity with each other.
