Get Loud Arkansas, a dedicated advocate for fair and accessible elections, is taking a stand against restrictive voter registration rules that could disenfranchise thousands of Arkansans. In response to blatant voter suppression efforts, we are exploring legal action against the Arkansas Secretary of State and the State Board of Election Commissioners. These entities are working to unnecessarily complicate the voter registration process and silence eligible Arkansas voters.
The Issue at Hand
The actions of the Secretary of State and State Board of Election Commissioners introduce worrying limitations on the voter registration process, including:
- Restrictions on the use of "computer processes" for voter registration applications, only allowing them when submitted by certain registration agencies (Declaratory Order 2024-002).
- Electronic signatures or marks on voter registration applications have been ruled out unless they originate from an identified registration agency (Rule Regarding Voter Registration).
- The broad interpretation of these measures could lead to significant barriers in the registration process, affecting Arkansans ability to register to vote, especially those in underserved communities.
Our Plan of Action
To challenge these restrictive measures, we are exploring legal action to halt the attacks on our democracy and protect the integrity of the voter registration process. We will file for a review of the rules on the grounds that they restrict the fundamental right to vote, and potentially violate Amendment 51.
