Surfers Not Street Children presents: Girls Surf Too
Safety, support and surfing for girls at-risk.
Girls Surf Too is our program providing critical support to girls at-risk living in unsafe conditions in Durban’s Point District. These girls, some as young as 5, face a daily battle against sexual and physical violence, drugs, gangs, disease and prostitution. The situation has worsened for girls since the introduction of a heroin-based street drug called ‘whoonga’.
The girls have a right to safety, play and development. With your support Girls Surf Too will expand to offer 7 days a week and longer hours at the daytime drop-in center and will offer a nightly rescue center - a safe space where girls can escape the brutal violence and horrors of the streets. Girls Surf Too is led by full-time female social workers and carers.
We are reaching out to our community today; your donation will help protect the girls we serve and help us sustain this critical care and opportunities for them. To offer this safety to over 40 girls, Girls Surf Too requires $60,000 to function over the next two years. This will directly pay for this specific program to run and enable us to develop the organization in order to support it. Any funding over and above this amount will support sustainability in the years beyond.
Girls Surf Too,! Help us make this a reality for girls who need it the most.
With sincere thanks.
