Sgt. Dennis DJ Simmonds Unsung Hero Foundation

Donation protected
11 years ago, while many of us were sheltering in-place, Boston Police Officer Sgt. Dennis “DJ” Simmonds took to the streets of Boston to protect us from those responsible for the Boston Marathon Bombing. During a firefight in Watertown, Sgt. Simmonds sustained injuries that would eventually claim his life. He was just 28 years old. Despite his remarkable bravery, his sacrifice was not initially acknowledged. His family had to fight for the recognition he deserved. I had the privilege of meeting his family at a memorial service in his hometown of Randolph where the high-school gym is now dedicated in his name. His story and his family’s resilience are an inspiration. Now years later, I have the honor of running in the Boston Marathon (along the same streets DJ protected) for the DJ Simmonds Unsung Hero Foundation. The Foundation which was established in his memory provides scholarships to students pursuing a career in criminal justice. To help support the heroes that keep us safe, and to honor Sgt. DJ Simmonds legacy, please consider donating to the scholarship fund. Donations will directly support young adults dedicated to making the world a safer place and will help the DJ Simmonds Unsung Hero Foundation secure fundraising bibs at future Marathons, thus keeping DJ Simmonds enduring legacy strong #BostonStrong #SimmondsStrong
