For the family of Sgt. Todd Hammel

Donation protected
Thank you for taking time to read Todd’s story.

Todd Hammel was a 38 yr. old police Sergeant, a devoted father to two young boys and a devoted husband to his wife Tracy. He was a paramedic prior to becoming a police officer and continued to serve his community in this capacity while off duty. Todd was heavily involved in his local boy scouts troop, taking time to instruct and chaperon all the young men he came into contact with. He was a volunteer with Big Brother’s Big Sisters and helped lead a bible study group for police officers after their shift was over. He had earned his masters degree and taught a criminal justice course at Indiana Tech.

All that came to an end on what was otherwise a beautiful day. At 1:10 pm on December 16, 2015 Todd Hammel was pronounced dead.  Todd was not killed in the line of duty nor was there a large tragic story that accompanied his death. Todd was at home doing what he normally would do when it appears he sat down after a work out, closed his eyes, and simply passed away. It appears Todd died of natural causes. At just 38 years old a husband, father, and hero is gone.

Because there is no splashy story or catchy headlines his passing would normally have been missed by many that didn’t know him. If it weren’t for the fact that Todd, by being himself and creating such a loyal following at his young age, garnered headlines in a community that now mourns in his loss. Many people have taken to social media to mourn and support Todd’s passing but we would ask you to consider helping to support his two sons and Tracy by providing financial support and to offset funeral expenses.

There are few people if any you will ever meet during your lifetime that will ever make you feel like you are the most important person they had spoken. Todd was one of those people. Not because he was trying to act nice or make you feel good, but because to him you were the most important person he had spoken too all day. He accomplished more at 38 years old than I know I will the rest of my life. He made decisions not on what was easiest for him or would cause him the least amount of grief. No, Todd made decisions based on one principal. What was right.

We are asking for anyone that has read Todd’s story or have seen the news of his passing to consider helping offset funeral expenses and by providing the necessary resources as the loss of income is devastating. No donation is too small and the family will use every dollar.  Instead of posting condolences on a wall we are asking for your help in lifting this family up and supporting them at this crucial time of year. Thank you for taking the time to read Todd’s story and for helping the family during what is normally a special time of year, because for two sons and a mother this time of year will never be the same again.
