Shaan's Top Surgery

Hi my name is Shaan Desai. I am a 22-year-old Marathi trans man currently residing in Philadelphia, pursuing a doctorate in occupational therapy at Jefferson University. I am beyond excited to finally live my truth and attend my dream university. That being said, the journey to this point has been anything but easy. Earlier this year, I had to make the difficult decision to break contact with my parents so I could finally allow myself to live life unapologetically. That being said, I no longer seek financial support from them. I am also unable to work due to the intensity of my academic program.

After debating, I finally decided to create a gofundme to raise funds for top surgery. Top surgery is a gender-affirming surgery that masculizes the chest by removing breast tissue. This procedure is extremely important to me. Growing up, my dysphoria immediately intensified the moment I began to go through female puberty. I struggled immensely and always wondered why I felt so different. I am now at a point in my life where I finally understand.

I am lucky to have so many people in my life that support and love me for who I am. I am usually not one to ask for or accept help, but today I am asking. I have no expectations for everyone around me to help! So please do not feel pressured. Any little bit makes a difference.
