Shady Acres Feral Cat Rescue

Hello, my name is Kevin and I have created this GoFundMe to support my wife, Teresa and her quest to establish and maintain a non-profit, feral cat rescue “Shady Acres Feral Cat Rescue” in Northern Ontario.

Feral cats are often unsocialized due to being born or finding themselves living on the streets; avoiding human contact and not allowing themselves to be seen or touched. Due to cats not being spayed or neutered, the population grows quickly leading to more and more cats added to the colony. These cats not only are devastating to wildlife but they do not deserve the conditions they find themselves in.

Teresa believes that every feral deserves the chance to have a furrever home. These cats need time to decompress and trust. Unfortunately, some take longer than others and need a safe place to do so.

In September 2021, "Shady" a smaller, black male, feral cat, came into the care of the North Bay & District Humane Society. Then, Shelter Supervisor, Teresa quickly made it her mission to turn Shady into more than a feral barn cat.

During his time with Teresa, he learned to trust her and they developed a special bond. In December 2021, Shady became a member of the family. The change in Shady, into a loving adoptable cat, saved a lot of lives for ferals in the last year as well as the catalyst for wanting to open a rescue.

With Shady Acres Feral Cat Rescue, the vision is to maintain a safe, loving environment where the incoming cat will receive necessary medical treatment, socialization and the time to learn what it is like to be loved and safe before being put into a foster home or up for adoption. In addition to assisting community members, we must work with local rescues to provide help with feral cats they may receive in their facilities.
