ShafvsGlioma- incurable brain cancer
Donation protected
Assalaamualaikum and hello.
My name is Mim. A mother of two little munchkins and I am insanely happily in love and married to a wonderful soul- Shaf!
Unfortunately, my beautiful husband was diagnosed with an anaplastic astrocytoma, grade 3 in 2021. This is a type of brain cancer (glioma). An aggressive and incurable type characterised by a severely poor prognosis with sorely limited treatment options. The devastating effects of glioma has been documented by a handful of people with more and more bravely coming forward to share their stories and insights, including their caregivers.
We have two instagram pages shafvsglioma run by myself and shaf_reflects run by Shaf. These pages have been set up to detail our journey through what is the most testing trial either of us has or may ever face. Whilst the stats are mostly doom and gloom we choose hope in amidst the pain and fight against this disease. We choose to share our journey in the hope it'll help raise awareness to all and to those who meet a similar fate. This is not easy by any stretch of the imagination but hope is all we have left.
This year has been the hardest and Shaf has had a recurrence. Sadly it cannot be operated upon as he would lose his quality of life- he would suffer paralysis, sight loss and lose his ability to speak and other cognitive functions. An outcome that neither of us want. We began fundraising at the after Shaf exhausted treatment options the NHS offers but we felt hopeful for his prospects and took this down. In light of the most recent scans showing extensive growth which are inoperable we are reinstating this fundraiser as NHS options are limited and we would like to try other options. Unfortunately these come at an eye watering cost. A cost that your average family cannot afford. We do not know how long any of the options we try will give Shaf but we would like to try and see if we can extend his life chances. We are fully aware that everything is in Gods hands, however we wish to throw everything we can at this. If you can donate then please do and if you cannot then please make a prayer for us and share this far and wide for awareness too.
Our consultant will attempt to stabilise tumour growth with chemotherapy. We live in hope that this will help too but we are determined to try additional options and we can only do this by external support and help.
Through everyone's support, prayers and previous donations you have made an impact already and we are eternally grateful and you are in our prayers.
Please keep our family in your prayers.
