2015 Marathon Fundraiser

Shaka Brown is preparing to run the Virgin Marathon in London, to raise money for tuberculosis research. 

Recovery from tuberculosis is possible, with proper medication, treatment, and time.   Many countries can't afford the medication. Many people can't tolerate the long-term treatment.  Many run out of time. 

In November of 2013, Shaka was carried into the hospital emergency room. He was diagnosed with extra-pulmonary tuberculosis. His disease compromised his bones, muscles, and organs. He was told that he was weeks, if not days, from dying.



Shaka underwent surgery to remove tuberculosis growth from his brain.

It was 4 months before he went home again.  

He is currently undergoing 18 months of combination drug therapy to cure the disease that remains in his body.

Shaka is running to give hope to the millions of that will develop this disease.  Hope for shortening the medication treatment (currently up to 24 months).

Shaka is running to raise awareness and understanding of this deadly disease.

Tuberculosis kills over 1 million people every year.

The Virgin Marathon runs 30,000 people through London.  Most are raising money for charity.

Of the 30,000 runners The World Without TB  foundation has 2 charity entry slots.

Shaka has been granted one.  

It's fitting, since Shaka was granted one more chance at life.

He wants to take that chance to improve the lives of millions, but he can't do it alone.

Your contribution will go towards covering costs of getting to London.  All remaining contributions will go to WWTB.
